Voice of Vietnam Radio opens representative office in Vientiane
(KPL) The Voice of Vietnam (VOV) Radio opened its representative office in Vientiane in a ceremony held on 24 August in coincidence with the state visit to Laos by Vietnam’s President Nguyen Minh Triet from 24 to 26 August.
Witnessing the ceremony were President Nguyen Minh Triet of Vietnam, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos, Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith; Minister of Information and Culture Mr. Mounkeo Oraboune; and relevant officials of Laos and Vietnam.
Mr. Mounkeo said that the cooperation between the Lao National Radio and VOV was important for the investment in radio infrastructure to ensure the modernisation of radio in Laos, especially its human resource development in the sector.
“The move would enhance skills and ability of Lao personnel to serve political duty in the areas of psychology and culture,” said Lao Information Minister Mounkeo Oraboune.
He said that the VOV service helped enhance the quality in radio programme production and was an alternative to the radio programmes in Vientiane. “The two countries will continue develop their respective radios step by step in line with the trend of electronic media development in ASEAN,” said the Minister.
The Voice of Vietnam has six frequencies and broadcast radio programmes 200 hours a day. The radio broadcast in Vietnamese, 12 foreign languages and 12 ethnic dialects, according to the Voice of Vietnam’s General Director Vu Van Hien.
“We will continue develop ourselves by keeping advertising through various media forms including radio, television, electronic newspapers and print media,” said Vu.
The opening of the VOV representative office in Laos is to ensure prompt provision of information on political, economic, cultural-social affairs for listeners in Laos and Vietnam, added Mr. Vu.
