Cabinet meeting for July considers important
issues

(KPL) The cabinet meeting for July held on 23-24 July under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong has discussed and considered a number of important issues including some of draft policies, master plans, strategies, amended laws and some of regulations.

According to Mrs. Bounpheng Mounphosay, Minister to the Government Office and Government spokesperson, the two day meeting has discussed and unanimously agreed in the principle to approve the preparatory report for the WTO membership of Laos which is now the final step of the negotiation. Since 1997, the Lao PDR has answered 1,300 questions of WTO member countries and signed in the results of the bilateral negotiation in order to determine the ceiling of tax and to open the service sector with 9 member countries of WTO. It also built and improved a number of regulations relating to the trade affairs in order to meet with the principles and conditions of the WTO.

The meeting also considered and agreed to accept the report on state personnel management for 2011-2012 periods and the proposal to receive the new government official in 2012-2013 periods for government office in central and local levels, especially the model of three build: Build province as strategic unit, district as comprehensive strength unit and village as development unit. It also agreed in consensus on the improvement of 7th line of the criminal law, article no.146 on drug in order to provide good conditions for official concern to conduct their duty correctly and fairly.

The meeting also considered and agreed to approve strategic plan and action plan for road safety for 2011-2020 periods which aimed to reduce the road accident.

At the end of the meeting, PM Thongsing Thammavong urged the meeting to review the activities held to mark the Laos-Vietnam friendship and solidarity year, to pay attention on defence and security affairs; to encourage the agricultural production in the rainy season. He also asked all sectors to actively work to prepare for fighting with drought and flood which may happen in August and September; and to strengthen the responsibility in preparing to host the ASEM 9 and ASEP 7.
