Vientiane: carries out plan to reduce poverty

(KPL)The socio-development of Vientiane province had improved over the last six months and in percentage terms the figure is 8.15% and so it had bettered the target of the provincial development plan, said Mr Somdy Keodalavinh, a National Assembly member of the 10th constituency of Vientiane province.
He said this when he was interviewed before he attended the Fifth Ordinary Session of the National Assembly, last Friday.
Mr Somdy added that the economic situation of the province is made up of: 50.54:%, 35.25% and 14.27% in agriculture, industry and services respectively.Mr Somdy said the provincial authorities have been focussing on poverty reduction and development of family businesses.

The National Assembly member of 10th constituency explained that the best method to overcome poverty is to focus on the political grass-root building and to get the village development clusters to carry out poverty reduction work.“The political grass-roots situation can be transformed and one can bring about such a situation by getting the provincial officers to inspect and assess the rural areas, collect data on poor families and use such knowledge to help them overcome the poverty problem,” said Mr Somdy.
Speaking during this exclusive interview he said that many shifting cultivators are poor and to help them overcome this problem, the provincial authorities should give them land so that they can plant plantation crops In addition to such work the provinces should also focus on infrastructure work, such as road construction, electricity and irrigation.
