New academic year starts

(KPL) On Wednesday, parents in large cities across the country took children to school, happy to have them back to school and the students happy to see their friends again.

This is the start of the 2010-2011 academic year, particularly for general schools, which usually starts on 1 September.

This academic year lies within the period for reviewing the implementation of the 6th five-year plan for education development and to determine the 7th five-year plan for education development. It is also a final year to implement the educational reform strategy, phase 1 (2006-2010) and to start the Phase 2 of the national strategy for educational reform (2010-2015).

The Vientiane Capital Administration organised on 1 September at Vientiane Secondary School a ceremony for the new academic year 2010-2011 under the presidency of Mr. Somvandy Nathavong, Vice-Mayor of Vientiane.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Somphou Keopanya, Director General of Vientiane Capital’s Education Service, reported the achievements and great contribution made by his Service for educational development in the past one year. He also talked about the plan for educational development in 2010-2011 period of Vientiane Capital.

In 2010- 2011 period, Vientiane Capital has 197 private and state kindergartens, 499 private and state primary schools and 136 secondary schools, according to Mr. Somphou Keopanya.
