Luang Namtha: nine villages hit by flash flood
(KPL) Flash flood hit five villages in Sing district and four villages in Long district, northern province of Luang Namtha, due to a prolonged heavy rainfall between 25 and 28 August.
The heavy rainfall was caused by a storm passing through the northern part of the country. This has left many rice farms, sugarcane farms, and vegetable fields under water.
Now the local people have not had enough water for daily consumption and because roads to the two districts have been cut off by landslide.
Seven sections on a 15-km road between Sing and Long districts were badly damaged by flash flood.
In addition, 15 electricity poles and two transformers were also affected by the storm.
Head of the Provincial Service of Social Welfare and Labour, Mr. Thongkhoune Amphengphay, Deputy Head of the Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Service, Mr. Somchanh Meeduangchanh, Head of the Provincial Public Works and Transport Service, Mr Bounkhob Phommachanh and local authorities have rushed to inspect the damage and supply drinking water to flood victims.
A provincial authority said that the road linking between Sing and Long districts was now being repaired and expected to come back to normal soon.
Local authorities are now estimating the cost of damage caused by the natural disaster to the nine villages of Tinethat, Namkeonoi, Patoy, Singchaleun and Nongkham in Sing district and Chomcheng, Donsavang, Donyeng, and Parkha villages of Long district.
