(KPL) The Australian Government Scholarship (AusAid) revealed here yesterday at the Vientiane Collage its 40 scholarship awardees for this 2010-2011 academic year.

Half of the AusAid Awardees are government officials and the rest from the private sector.

An examination to decide the awardees of the AusAid for the 2010-2011 period was held between June and July with the participation of 1,600 candidates.

The Australian government’s scholarship is available to the Lao nationals aged between 18 and 35 years for the private sector and between 18 and 40 years for the government sector.

"The Australian Government has implemented this scholarship programme for 47 years," said the Lao-Australian Scholarships Officer Ms. Yaya Nhouyvanisvong.

"This scholarship is also available to students in provinces across the country. Every year, we launch a campaign on the scholarship in many provinces even in rural areas and this year eleven people from provinces are awarded the AusAid scholarship,"said Yaya.

The new awardees will attend an English course at the Vientiane College for one year before they leave for Australia.

"This is the second time I have attended the examination. Last year I failed but this year I take the exam again. I am going to study in Australia for two years in economics," said AusAid's awardee Mr. Vansay Sayavong from the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Attending the ceremony of AusAid awarding were representatives from the Ministry of Education, relevant organisations, the AusAid Office in Vientiane, and Australian Ambassador to Laos Dr. Michelle Forster.
