The hike of rice price has sustained continually as a result of rice production in different provinces suffered from climate change last year.

Facing the matter, an economist gave a point of view that if the supply of rice was inadequate to the market’s demand and there wasn’t rice from other resource for supplying market, the price of rice would further move upward till the end of this rainy season. Dr Liber Libouapao, Deputy Head of National Economic Research Institute of the Ministry of Planning and Investment has explained that the price of rice is expensive due to the impact on flood in different areas countrywide last year and low harvest of rice.

He has stated further that as a result of flood, the supply of rice to the local market is inadequate leading to the high price of rice in the local market.
