President Choummaly visits Thasano Research and Seed Multiplication Station

(KPL) Mr. Choummaly Sayasone, Secretary General of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and State President visited on 28 August the Thasano Research and Seed Multiplication Station in Savannakhet province to inspire the working people to further efforts.

He was accompanied by Mr. Bounpone Bouthanavong, member of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Office and senior officials from central and local levels. He was greeted by the leading officials of the province and the station.

He advised the leading officials of the province and the station to encourage the rice plantation for trade. He also asked the station to pay attention only on rice plantation and to encourage the local people to use the new rice seed to plant at the suitable areas. The Thasano Research and Seed Multiplication Station is the main station in the central region of Lao PDR. It was established in 1998 and is located in the Savannakhet province.

Similarly to PRES this station plays an important role in the evaluation of segregating populations ( F3 to F5) developed by the rice improvement programme of ARC and introduced from neighboring countries. Selection is applied to these materials and seeds of the improved lines are distributed to farmer in the province.
