U 5 kids' enrolment rate increased by 45.6 per cent in Xayabury

(KPL) The enrolment rate of children aged between 3 and 5 has increased by 45.6 per cent in 2012 comparing to the previous year, according to Director of the Provincial Education and Sports Department of Xayabury, Mr. Toumoua Bouatongmoua.
Mr. Toumoua said that the enrolment rate in primary schools is 99.35 per cent, increased by 0.34 per cent. The Northern Province currently hosts 177 kindergartens, 402 primary schools and 90 secondary schools.
According to Mr. Toumoua, Xayabury has enjoined a remarkable achievement in improving education quality, approaching the implementation of Millennium Development Goal number 2.
On May 22, at the Provincial Education and Sports Department of Xayabury, a meeting was held to discuss the provincial preparation for the announcement of the Non Formal Education (NFE) Primary Education Programme and the hosting of the 9th National Traditional Sports Competition.
Five out of 17 provinces have been proclaimed literate, meaning that target population aged between 15 and 40 in these provinces have gained access to NFE primary education. These literate provinces include Vientiane Capital, Luang Prabang, Xiengkhuang, Oudomxay, and Champasak.
The meeting was attended by educational executives, district chiefs and relevant officials from the province.
