NA Vice President visits Hmong village, Phonkham

(KPL) Vice President of the National Assembly Mrs. Pany Yathortou visited Phonkam village, Bolikhamxay province, on Tuesday 9, March. Ban Phonkham is a newly established village to accommodate Hmong people repatriated back from Thailand. The Vice President of National Assembly was accompanied by Governor of Bolikhamxay province, Mr. Khamphanh Philavong. Mrs. Pany was informed on the socio-economic development of Ban Phokham by Executive Committee of Phakbeouk Focal Development Area Mr. Bountheam Inthisan.

Poland shows interests in mining investment in Laos

(KPL) Poland government has shown an interest in investment opportunities in mining sector in the Lao PDR. The statement was made by Assistance Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Mr. Pawel Wojciechoski during his meeting with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, Mr. Phongsavath Boupha, on 10 March, Vientiane. Mr. Pawel told the Lao minister that he would mobilize Poland investors to come to seek investment opportunities in Laos.

Japan further grants for UXOs clearance in Pek district

(KPL) The Government of Japan has decided to provide US$900,804 grant aid for the Japan Mine Action Service (JMAS), a Japanese NGO, to implement the project of clearing unexploded ordnances (UXO) in Pek and other seven districts (phase 2) under the grant aid assistance scheme for Japanese NGOs projects.

Asean customs declaration document to implement by the end this year

(KPL) The Customs Department, Ministry of Finance, held a workshop to evaluate preparation for the implementation of Asean customs declaration document by the end of this year. The workshop was held in Vientiane on Wednesday with more than 100 representatives of export and import firms from the government and private sector attending the event.

Mitr Phol Sugar Company donates 10 million kip for new City Pillar Shrine construction

(KPL) The Mitrpol Sugar Company ( Laos) has presented 10 million kip to Minister of Information and Culture Mr. Mounkeo Oraboune to contribute to financing the construction of new City Pillar Shrine, which is going on in Ban Phiavath, Sisattanark district. The handover of the donation package is held on March 9, 2010 at the National Cultural Hall in Vientiane.

Rubber latex plant breaks ground in Laos

(KPL) The construction of a rubber latex producing plant with an annual capacity of 15,000 tonnes broke ground in Pakse district, Champassak province, Laos on March 10. Prominent among the guests at the ground-breaking ceremony were Champassak province’s Deputy Governor Somsanit Bouttivong, Vietnam’s Consul General in Laos Bui Quang Hoang and other high-ranking officials of the two countries.

Cambodian Premier Meets Outgoing Lao Ambassador

(KPL) Outgoing Lao Ambassador to Cambodia Chanthavy Bodhisone said during his three-year diplomatic mission he obtained a strong support and cooperation of Cambodia’s government institutions, according to AKP. He said this on 9 March while paying a farewell visit to Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen at the end of his diplomatic mission in Cambodia.

Nurses upgraded for better nursing skills

(KPL) Eleven nurses from three provinces including Houaphanh, Sayaboury and Borikhamsay attended a training course on nursing and obstetrics on March 9-13. Present at the training course were Head of the Health Service of Luang Prabang, Ms. Amone Silivong, expert at nursing education from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Ms. Riura Mitsue, trainers from main hospitals in Vientiane and representatives of relevant sectors.

FIBA trains Lao basketball referees

(KPL) Lao basketball referees underwent an advanced training course on March 4-8, conducted by the Federation International of Basketball’s (FIBA) Asian Technical Director, Mr Lee Kak Kuan. Completion of the course will qualify the referees to work at international level. This year, the Lao Basketball Federation will also hold several competitions, which are aimed to improve the overall competition skills of Lao players.

Sengchanh knocks out Sengphet in Muay Lao M-150

(KPL) Sengchanh, 26, knocked out Sengphet, 22, a rising star of the Sit-aly Club at the National Circus Ring on Saturday night. Sengphet almost tasted success in the third round of the 65kg bout after stunning his opponent with a powerful punch. But after struggling to his feet, Sengchanh regained his composure in the third round, and after ducking another strong punch, delivered a sharp knee to the stomach of Sengphet, ending the fight.

Japan finances USD10.5 million for solar power use and forest info management in Laos

(KPL) The Japanese government has granted US$ 10.5 million to the Lao government to support the Clean Energy by Solar Electricity Generation System and the Forest Information Management projects in Laos. The agreement on the assistance was signed at the Ministry of Planning and Investment in Vientiane on Tuesday.

Bokeo to use water from the Mekong to ease tap water shortage

(KPL) Bokeo province has decided to invest 350 million kip in resolving water supply shortage in Houai Sai district, according to local official. Director of the Water Supply of Bokeo province, Mr. Bounlay Mingboupha said that the water supply shortage resolution project will begin this week and be over next month.

Viengsay declared literate

(KPL) Viengsay, Houaphanh province, has announced its success in providing an intensive primary education course for its residents aged 15-40. Viengsay becomes the third district in this northeastern province Houaphanh and the 60th in the country to have declared success in eradicating illiteracy.
