PM to attend Mekong-Japan summit in Tokyo
(KPL) A high-ranking delegation of Laos led by Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh will attend the first Mekong-Japan summit slated in Tokyo for 6-7 November.
According to a source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, PM Bouasone’s trip for the summit is at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama.

Mitr Lao Sugar Company to double volume production this year
(KPL) The Mitr Lao Sugar Company expected that its volume production would increase double in this year.
Around 400,000 tonnes of sugarcanes is expected to be supplied to its plant in this year.
Deputy Manager of the Mitr Lao Sugar Company, Mr. Thanaphat Chitphinith said that the input of 400,000 tonnes of sugarcanes would be output of 40,000 tonnes of sugar.

Govt grants 2.4 billion kip to Sekong for terminating slash-and-burn farming
(KPL) The Lao government has given 2.4 billion kip to Sekong province for its cause of ceasing the slash-and-burn cultivation and creating non-nomadic jobs for mountainous people, especially farmers who give up such a forest-destructive cultivation.
Sekong held a meeting to discuss its socio-economic development and budget plans for the 2009-2010 fiscal year.

Vietnam-Laos solidarity highlighted
(KPL) “Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts helping Laos – Symbol of the Vietnam-Laos special solidarity and combat alliance” was the title of a seminar in Hanoi on Oct. 29 to mark the 60th traditional day of the volunteer force (Oct. 30).
According to VNA, about 200 delegates, including military officers, social scientists, military historians and war veterans from Vietnam and Laos attended the event.
